Localization
Northernmost tip of Sulawesi, about 70 km from Manado
Access
Easy. Only two hours drive from Manado.
Characteristic
8,700 hectars; Rolling hills and valleys landscape from the sea level up to the highest point of 1,361 m (Mt. Dua Saudara). The reserve contains three volcanoes; the mountain Tangkoko, the ash cone of Batuangus which resulted from an eruption in 1839, and the twin peaks of Dua Saudara. The cone of Batuangus is almost bare of vegetation and has a lava flow that extends to the sea. Where the lava flow meets the sea, a collapsed tunnel has formed a 400 m long cove that contains coral formation and the only mangrove habitat in the reserve. Typical ecosystems: lowland tropical rain forest, cloud forest, volcanic biotopes, sea and sea coast.
