Localization
Northernmost Madagascar, 1000 km north of capital Antananarivo, 27 km southwest from Antsiranana
Access
Easy. Travel to Joffreville (park entrance) from Antsiranana takes about 45 minutes.
Characteristic
182 km2; An isolated volcanic massif of mostly basaltic rock, above the surrounding dry region. There are numerous rivers and streams, spectacular waterfalls and several crater lakes. Annual rainfall in the park is 3,585 millimetres. Elevation 800 - 1475 m a.s.l. Typical ecosystems: mountain rain forest, dry deciduous forest and freshwater ecosystems.

The area is named after the deposits of copal, a soft form of amber.
