South Chile, Lake District, 82 km northeast of Puerto Montt and 64 km northeast of Puerto Varas.

Access

Easy. From Puerto Varas to Ensenada (park entrance) by public or private land transport by Ruta Internacional 225.

Characteristic

2 530 km2; Mountainous region in the main Andes mountain chain. The park protects the body of Todos los Santos Lake. The outlet of the lake gives rise to the Petrohué River. A short distance downstream, still within the limits of the Park, the Petrohué river flows through the Petrohue Waterfalls. The Park also contains the eastern slope of Volcan Osorno, the southern slope of the Puntiagudo and the western slopes of the Tronador. The maximum altitude of the park is 3491 meters. The climate is humid temperate, with an average annual rainfall index of 2.500 mm in Ensenada. This increases to 4.000 mm in Casapangue. The average annual temperature is 11.1°C, with an average in January of 16°C and in June of 6.5°C. In the higher areas of the park, most of the precipitations are snow. Typical ecosystems: temperate zone forest (Valdivian rain forest), freshwater ecosystems (lakes and rivers), alpine and volcanic biotopes.
