Southern Chile, Lake District - 93 km east of Los Angeles

Access

Easy. There are public buses going from Los Ángeles to Abanico. There is no public transport from Abanico to the park (10 km) along the gravel road..

Characteristic

119 km2; Spectacular mountain landscapes of central Andes, whose main attractions are the Antuco Volcano, Sierra Velluda Moutains and Laguna del Laja. The lake was formed by the eruption of the Antuco Volcano in 1853 and it became the largest lagoon in the country. The park ranges in elevation from 976 m to 3585 m at Sierra Velluda. Sharp ridges and deep valleys carve this rugged region. The park forms part of the Bío-Bío River basin. Several glaciers and waterfalls. Typical ecosystems: temperate zone forests, freshwater ecosystems (rivers and lakes), alpine and volcanic biotopes.

Excellent conditions for walking and trekking of various difficulty

Mountaineering, fishing, skiing (including ski centers), swimming, kayaking, horse riding.
