South Chile, 218 km south of Puerto Montt.

Access

Moderately difficult - the preserved area has no public access infrastructure. By bus or by ferry from Puerto Montt to Chaitén (approx. 4 hours) and then by private vehicle to Corcovado.

Characteristic

2 940 km2; Mountainous national park reaching the sea coast - it borders the Gulf of Corcovado to the west. The park includes the volcanoes Corcovado (2 300 m) and Yanteles. The park hosts significant biodiversity of flora and fauna. Typical ecosystems: Valdivian temperate rain forests (along the sea coast), freshwater ecosystems (about 82 lakes and many rivers), alpine and volcanic biotopes, sea and sea coast.

Note

The newest of the national parks of Chile - was created in 2005 as the result of land donations from 2 American conservationists and Chilean army. The park is regarded as the country’s most spectacular coastal park.
