Localization
Central province in Sri Lanka, 225 km north east of Colombo and 50 km north east of Kandy.
Access
Easy, along a good road - 10 km from Polonnaruwa via Laggala and Wilgamuwa.
Characteristic
393 km2; Flat area to low mountain range - a part of the Sri Lanka Central Highlands. The elevation of the National Park is from 76 m to the highest point - Sudu Kanda (White mountain), which over 500 metres of height. The dominant topographic feature is the north-south aligned Sudukanda Range in the west of the park which forms the divide between Amban and Mahaweli Rivers. Typical ecosystems: dry evergreen forest, gallery forest, grasslands, freshwater ecosystems and wetlands. As park is almost surrounded by Mahaweli and Amban Rivers, gallery forest area is fairly large.

Note
Many historical monuments in the park. The ruins estimated to be about 1800 years old features a reclining Buddha statue at Buduruwayaya.
