Localization
South West of Sri Lanka, 130 km southeast from Colombo.
Access
Easy. Along various quality roads from Ratnapura. Four hours drive from Colombo.
Characteristic
88,6 km2; The reserve is only 21 km from east to west, and a maximum of 7 km from north to south. Hilly to mountainous area lying on the southern edge of the Central Highlands - altitude ranges from 270 to 1,150 meters (highest peak - Hinipitigala). Several of parallel strike ridges valleys directed from the east to the west with rivers rich of water and lots of waterfalls. Annual rainfall range of 3,000 to 6,000 millimeters. Typical ecosystems: primary tropical rain forest (unique in Sri Lanka), freshwater ecosystems (streams). High percentage of endemism of both - plants and animals species

Excellent conditions for rain forest trekking and climbimg some mountain tops.
Note
World Heritage Site by UNESCO and World Biosphere Resrve.
Park only accessible by foot, there is no tourist infrastructure inside the park.
Best time to visit XII-IV.
Be aware of leeches!
