Localization
Central Borneo

Quite difficult - about 11 hours from Pontianak by car or 7 hours Bandung boat ride from Sintang to Semitau. From Semitau, the only transportation option available to get to the national Park is by boat.
Characteristic
1320 km2; Mainly flat area, with some isolated hills in the upper Kapuas River tectonic basin some 700 kilometres upstream from the delta. It is surrounded by hill and mountain ranges in the west, northeast and east. The basin is a vast floodplain regularly flooded. Approximately half of the park area consists of lakes - one of the world's most biodiverse lake systems. During rainy season between October to May the water levels of the lakes and streams in the park area increase dramatically and may rise up to 12 meters. As a consequence the lake system may become a single water mass in the rainy season. During the dry season, water levels fall and many lakes may dry out entirely. Typical ecosystems: freshwater ecosystems (about 20 seasonal lakes), freshwater swamp forest, peat swamps.
