Access

Easy. Flight from Dar-es-Salaam to Mtwara (about 50 minutes). Then by 4x4 vehicle another 45 km to the park gate.

Characteristic

650 km2 of which 430 km2 is covered by water; Marine national park - 3 islands (Namponda, Mongo and Kisiwa Kidogo) and numerous small rocky islets. Shallow marine bay and Ruvumba river mouth. Typical ecosystems: sea and sea coast, coral cliffs, sea grass beds, 70 km2 of mangroves, freshwater ecosystems, coastal forest, 15 km of sand dunes (highest in the East Africa) and 4 km2 of salinas.
