Tram Chim National Park


Basic ecotouristic information on Tram Chim National Park (Vietnam) - localization, access, characteristic, fauna and flora, possible activities.

Localization

South Vietnam, about150 km west from Ho Chi Minh City and about 125 km from Can Tho.

Access

Easy - directly by bus from Ho Chi Minh City or by car from Can Tho. 

Characteristic

76 km2; Flat seasonal wetlands area traversed by an extensive network of canals in Mekong Delta. The area is almost flooded by 2-4 meters of water for three to six months annually. Annual grass fires occur in the dry season. The park was created to restore a degraded wetland, in order to protect several species of rare birds - especially sarus crane (occurs during dry period - not nesting). Bengal florical has been found as well - its nestin is not sure. Typical ecosystems: wetlands, grasslands, seasonal flooded localities, freshwater ecosystems.
