Localization
North Vietnam, about 230 km northwest from Hanoi.
Access
Easy. By night train from Hanoi to Lao Cai and further by car or by bus to Sapa City. The summit of Fansipan is possible to reach by a cable car.
Characteristic
298 km2; Mountainous national park with terrain mostly between 1,000 and 3,000 meters above sea level. It consists of a high mountain system of Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range, including Fansipan at 3.143 meters high - the highest mountain in Vietnam and on the Indochinese Peninsula. The terrain of Hoàng Liên National Park is a harmonious blend of rugged mountains, deep valleys, and dense forests. Moderate temperatures ranging usually from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. Rainy season usually runs from June to August. Typical ecosystems: mountain forest, cloud forest, high mountain biotopes, freshwater ecosystems.

Hoang Lien Mountain Range is listed as one of the most exciting destinations for mounatin trekking.

Note
Best time to visit: III-V and IX-XI.
Frequent rains during rainy season make paths muddy, slippery and sometimes impassable.
Hoang Lien National Park has also preserved various traditional cultural beauty of the ethnic communities living here such as music and dance activities of Giay, Mong, and Dao ethnic people or housing architecture of the ethnic groups.
Park is listed as ASEAN Heritage Park.
